How to choose your duvet.
A down duvet is an investment for generations. What should
you look for when you buy a duvet?
Construction
Always look for the full length channel-type. These channels allow the best
covering of the body, and prevent the filling from moving in the width. With
long and wide tunnels the down can circulate and "breathe". This way of making a
duvet also makes it possible with proper cleaning and maintenance.
The quality of the down
Nature has equipped Ducks and Geese with down and feathers. This unique natural
protection even allows them to swim in the freezing waters all the way to the
polar edge. Down and feathers consist of small air channels. The air is an
obstacle for the cold or the warmth to reach the body, thus isolating against
the freezing Arctic temperatures and the warm Midsummer. Down and feathers from
seabirds are protected agains humidity, and transports the humidity away from
the body. This quality provides the comfortable and healthy micro climate which
only a down duvet can offer.
The climate is more significant for the size of the down than from which bird
it is picked. In cold countries ducks and geese have larger and better down than
their reiatives who live in warmer climates.
Geese and ducks living in the Arctic develop the largest down in the world,
or else they would not sunvive. The largest down give the highest degree of
filling, and the highest TOG rating.
TOG rating = fillingpower.
Norvegr only use down from Siberia and the Arctic areas.
Filling power
The filling power tells you a lot about the down qualities ability to
fill your duvet, and to give room to the air that is warmed by your body
when you sleep. Filling power is measured on a scale of 1 to 14. The
highest number the better filling power.
Look at the picture at the right and you see 2 cylinders with 2 different
down qualities. The weight of the down in the cylinders is exactly the same. The
volume of the down in the 2 cylinders, however, is significantly different. This
picture visualizes filling power clearly. The best down gives the largest volume,
and the lightest duvet.
The cylinder to the left is filled with White Siberian Snow Goose. Each and
every individual down is bigger than in any other goose down quality. "Siberian
Snow Goose" is the best goose down you can buy in the world.
The tickling, the inlets
We only use inlets from the best Egyptian Cotton Batiste for our duvets. This
cambric is very light, bright and soft, and keeps the content inside the full
length channels in the most satisfactory way.
Tailor made
By our experience, some clients often want individual solutions. Our duvets are
handmade and individually adjusted to meet the desires of the customer. From the
cold to the warm person, from the summer season to winter season, between the
air conditioned room and the opened window room, we have the best alternatives.
Common for all down duvets is the ability of transporting humidity from the
body, making a unique microclimate that gives the extreme sensation of dryness
and nicely tempered comfort.
Maintenance
Duvets are made of long lasting materials. Remember to shake it gently every
morning, and give it an airing now and then, but not directly into the sunlight.
The full length tubes make it possible to steam-clean the duvet, which you
should do every 7th year. The tubes also make it possible to increase the
quantity of down into the tubes if you want a warmer duvet, or extract down if
that is necessary.
